In this tutorial I will go through the process of creating a drop-down menu that will include several slicers. The ingredients needed are bookmarks, an icon, and slicers.
1 Add a bookmark
The initial step is to create a bookmark of the page with visuals before filters. The on and off buttons of the slicer panel will then be used to open and close it to navigate back at the bookmarked page.
Go to View click on Bookmarks and Add a bookmark. I rename it to Sales overview original.
2 Insert a Shape
I start by inserting a shape for the drop-down menu and another one to cover the visuals on the page. The first shape I set transparency to 0 and for the second I set it to 10%. In the selection pane I group the 2 shapes together.
3 Add slicers
I add slicers for years and month, Customer Country, Product Category and Subcategory. In the selection pane I drag and place them above the shape group.
4 Add off button
Let’s start by adding the off button. There are standard icons in the insert tab. It is also possible to add an icon downloaded from a website or icons that are already on the computer. In the selection pane I make sure the close button is placed at the top right.
5 Group all together
Now I select the button, the slicers and the shapes and group them all together and rename it to Selection pane
6 Add on button
Now I add another icon which will act as the open button for the slicer panel.
I place this one on the top left.
7 Add bookmark
Now I add a new bookmark and call it Slicer panel
8 Activate action on buttons
I start with the open slicer panel button.
I click on the icon and go to Action and select Slicer panel under bookmark.
I do the same process for the close button. I select the button and under Format image – Action I leave the Type to Bookmark and select the Sales overview original bookmark.
9 Bookmark settings
In order to keep the filters after I close the slicer panel I need to change the bookmark setting to not affect data.
I uncheck Data to both of them
